Delivery app dish photos

Wolt and efood show your menu as a grid. That grid is your restaurant.

A hungry person decides in about two seconds from a screen of thumbnails. They are not judging any single dish — they are judging whether the forty of them look like one kitchen.

Delivery app dish photos

Delivery platforms differ in their exact specifications and all of them crop hard to a fixed ratio, usually something close to square. Whatever you upload is going to be trimmed, so the safe approach is a centred dish with margin on all sides.

The bigger issue is not any single requirement. It is that a menu is photographed over years, by different people, in different light, and the grid shows all of that at once.

Why your photos are costing you sales

The dish only looks right for about ninety seconds. Sauces skin, herbs wilt under the heat lamp, fried food goes matte, ice cream is finished in thirty. You cannot carry it somewhere better lit, because by the time you arrive it is a photograph of cold food and everybody can tell.

So the picture gets taken at the pass, under fluorescent tubes, against stainless steel — and that is exactly what it looks like.

It has to still be your item

Take the photograph where the dish is, in the ninety seconds you have, and replace the kitchen afterwards. The plating, the portion and the colour are yours and stay exactly as served; the stainless steel and the fluorescent light are not and do not.

  • Shoot at the pass without the pass appearing in the photograph
  • Forty dishes that look like one kitchen, even shot months apart
  • Centred and square-safe, so the platform crop takes nothing
  • The portion in the picture is the portion in the box

Questions people ask before they sign up

What size and ratio do the delivery apps want?
They differ and they change, and several crop to roughly square regardless of what you upload. Shoot at full resolution with the dish centred and margin all round, and confirm the current specification in your partner portal.
Will the portion still be accurate?
Yes, and it has to be. Portion complaints dominate delivery reviews, and the photograph is what the customer compares the open box against. Photograph a standard portion plated by the kitchen, not a generous one.
Can I fix a photo taken under the heat lamp?
The lighting and the background are replaced, so an orange cast from a heat lamp largely goes. What cannot be recovered is detail the camera never captured — if the white rice blew out to featureless white, it stays that way.
