Layer lines intact, colour exactly as it printed. Staged on white for a listing, on a desk for a post, or beside a ruler so buyers can finally see the size.

The print comes off the plate and gets photographed where it stands, which is on the printer, with the bed, the spool and half a roll of filament in the frame.

It is understandable — the object is right there and the light above the bench is on. But it tells a buyer "homemade" in the way that loses the sale rather than the way that wins it. There is a version of homemade that commands a premium, and it does not have a heated bed in the background.

The print itself is usually fine. It is the six centimetres around it that are costing you.

Why your photos are costing you sales

Two things kill listings in this category, and neither is print quality.

The first is scale. Photographed alone against a plain surface, a print could be four centimetres or forty, and buyers who guess wrong open a case. The second is the workbench: a photo full of tools, spools and cutting mats says the seller has not thought about presentation, which buyers extend to mean the seller has not thought about packing either.

It has to still be your item

Layer lines are the honest signal that the object is printed, and hiding them sets an expectation the parcel cannot meet. They stay. So does the exact filament colour, which is the other thing people open disputes about — a print advertised in sage green and delivered in mint is a refund regardless of how good the model was.

The instruction preserves geometry, colour, material and surface. What it changes is the bench, the spool and the light.

  • The bench, the spool and the heated bed leave the frame
  • Layer lines and filament colour stay exactly as they printed
  • A ruler scene, so nobody has to guess whether it is four centimetres or forty
  • One print photographed once, listed on Etsy and posted to Instagram from the same shot

Questions people ask before they sign up

Will it smooth away my layer lines?
No. They are preserved deliberately, because they are the honest signal that the object is printed and hiding them sets up a disappointed buyer.
Does the filament colour stay exact?
Colour is one of the attributes explicitly preserved on every generation. Sage green stays sage green, which matters because colour mismatch is a common dispute here.
What about multi-colour or AMS prints?
They are treated like any other object — the colour layout comes from your photograph, so shoot the angle that shows the transitions you want seen.
Can I show the size without holding a ruler in every shot?
There is a ruler scene and several scale scenes using a hand or a familiar object. Most sellers use one scale shot alongside two clean ones.
