Product photography in Heraklion
A season that ends, and photographs that have to last
Crete sells hardest for six months and photographs during the two when nobody has time. Getting a photographer in August is difficult and expensive; getting one in February means shooting a summer product in winter light.

The producers here — olive oil, honey, herbs, ceramics, soap — sell to visitors in season and online out of it, and the two channels want different photographs. A jar on a market stall in July is not the image that sells the same jar to a customer in Munich in January.
Meanwhile the island premium is real. A specialist may come from Athens, and that journey is in the quote.
Why your photos are costing you sales
Seasonal businesses end up with one set of photographs taken in whichever month they could afford it, then use them all year. A product shot in the wrong season looks it, and a shop that only ever shows summer light stops feeling current in November.
The fix is not more shoots. It is being able to produce a winter setting and a summer one from the same jar on the same afternoon.

It has to still be your item
A photographer is worth it for the images that define the brand and will not date — the workshop, the hands, the place. Everything seasonal and everything that changes with the harvest is better done as you go.
- Summer and winter settings from one photograph, on the same day
- No island premium and no waiting for someone to fly in
- New harvest photographed the week it is bottled
- Greek for the local shop, English for the export listing

Questions people ask before they sign up
- Does the label stay exactly as printed?
- Yes, and it matters here more than in most categories. Origin claims, protected designations and allergen text are regulated, and none of it is altered — the label in the image is the label on the jar.
- Can I show the same product in different seasons?
- That is the main reason to use this on Crete. One photograph of a jar produces a bright summer setting and a warm winter one, so the shop can move with the calendar without a second shoot.
- What about dark glass bottles?
- Light the bottle from behind when you take the photograph so the contents read rather than going black. The staging cannot recover what the capture did not record.
