The same scene, three different objects — because what you make is not what anyone else makes.

Studio black

A matte black backdrop with light raking in from behind, so the edge of the object glows and everything else falls away.

Send one photo of what you made and we restage that — we never invent an object. Extra angles only help when a scene shows a side your photo does not.

Light comes from behind and just off to one side, so it traces the outline of the object in a thin bright line before a soft key fills the front. The background stays properly black rather than dark grey, and a faint reflection sits under the base. The result reads expensive because it is how expensive things are lit.

It is the right choice for anything pale, metallic, glass or polished — silver, brass, amber glass, a white ceramic glaze — where a white background would swallow the edges. It is the wrong choice for anything dark. A charcoal wool scarf on black is a shape you have to work to see, and that is a scroll past.

Shoot the reference against the darkest plain surface you have and keep the flash off. Even a phone photo taken on a dark table gives us the shape and the finish, which is all we need; the drama is added, not captured.
